FOOD GROUPS

1) Carbohydrates and fibre
· Carbohydrates give us lots of energy.
· Fibre is good for our digestion.
Examples: pasta, rice, cereals and potatoes.

2) Proteins and iron
· We need proteins and iron to build muscle and make us strong.
Examples: meat, fish, beans, pulses and eggs.

3) Fruit and vegetables
· Fruit and vegetables are full of vitamins, minerals and fibre.
· We need vitamins and minerals to keep us healthy, to grow and to protect us from illness.
· Fruit has quite a lot of sugar.

4) Dairy products
Dairy products are made from milk.
They are rich in calcium, which keeps our bones and teeth healthy.

5) Fats
They help our brain and nervous system.
Examples: olive oil, salmon, nuts and avocados.
